About this Blog
If you haven’t read it already, I invite you first to ready the About me page. First thank you for visiting my trading blog and an important disclaimer at the start:
I am not a financial advisor and everything that I share in this blog is based on my own personal experience and on the knowledge that I gained trading the market. In my posts I may say a stock is a buy or sell. This is based on my own studies applying rules that I have learned. DO NOT take this as a recommendation. If you decide to buy or sell a stock that is mentioned here, ALWAYS do your own research first.
Well I learned that with a little knowledge and one to two spare hours per week, you can successfully trade the market and make consistent profits that will outperform any savings or term deposit account. This blog is about sharing my experience and show you my blog portfolio so you can follow my process. I attempt not to use too much trader language so that everyone is able to understand.
In the year 2007 I bought myself a Home Study Course (HSC) for share trading. What appealed to me was that you could study at your own pace in the comfort from your home. The course defines some trading basics and teaches you how the stock market behaves and most importantly why. This was a real eye-opener for me. At the end of the course you are giving 5 important rules that need to be met before buying a stock and most importantly it tells you when to sell. After a bit of practice and the initial learning curve, I usually spend 1 – 2 hours each weekend looking at the market and making my buy or sell decisions.
The HSC recommends looking at the top 100 Australian shares, as it has been back-tested against them. I am also applying the rules against the German market (DAX, MDAX and Tech-DAX) with similar results than in the Australian market.
To start this blog I am only looking at the top 100 Australian stocks starting from 1st of January 2009. When I get a buy signal for a specific stock, I will add it to my blog portfolio. Following rules apply:
- each buy will be for 10,000 AUD or closest
- add positions will be executed according to the HSC rules
- the portfolio will only hold a maximum of 20 shares
- any buying or selling decisions for this portfolio will be made at the end of each week
I will post the value of the portfolio at the beginning of each month and will give weekly updates with any stocks that give me a buy or sell signal. I will further share some of past trading experiences including some of my worst mistakes.
If you like this blog, please share it with your friends or your favourite social network and leave your comments. Depending on the interest I receive, I can see myself adding other markets in the future.
Happy Reading
Thomas Born
